Try the red with ancient roots
The Red Petralava Etna DOC is made from a combination of Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio grapes, two varieties whose roots reveal the ancient story of wine and the Volcano.
From the Castiglione di Sicilia, Randazzo, Linguaglossa and Piedimonte areas, this is a wine of high quality and strong, decisive personality that honours Etna and its world-famous DOC area.

TERRAIN
Soils of volcanic origin, on the north slope of Etna, at 600-800 m (1970-2600 feet) above sea level, with wide temperature differences from day to night.
TRAINING SYSTEM
Traditional bush and cordon training.
HARVEST
The grapes are picked by hand in mid-October.
VINE AGE
20-40 years.
QUANTITY PER HECTARE
70-90 quintals (7000-9000 kg) per hectare.
IN THE WINERY
Vinification: The grapes undergo a long maceration and fermentation at controlled temperatures for around 2 weeks.
Ageing: at least 12 months in 30 hl oak and chestnut barrels, followed by 12 months in bottle.

TASTING NOTES
Petralava Etna DOC Red is an assertive wine with fine tannins and spice on the palate. The nose is intense with floral and red-fruit notes. The ruby colour is impressive.
COLOUR
Ruby red, developing garnet shades as it ages.
NOSE
Intensely vinous with refined floral notes, red fruits and vanilla.
STRUCTURE
Dry and well-structured, with persistent flavours of ripe red fruit, liquorice, spices and delicate tannins.
AGEING ABILITY
Thanks to the tannin structure and balanced acidity produced by the climate, it can age for over 10 years if stored lying down in a cool, dry, dark cellar.
